Marty Neumeier speaks at Portland’s Design Week.

Design Week Portland 2013 kicked off last night. The week is shaping up to be a fabulous celebration of design across every discipline. There are literally hundreds of events and dozens of open houses—including one at Liquid Agency. We are also pleased to present our Director of Transformation, Marty Neumeier on Wednesday at the Ace Hotel. Marty will be speaking about Metaskills and five talents for the robotic age.

Marty will talk about the talents we need to succeed in the “Robotic Age.”

In the next few decades we’ll see the acceleration of man-machine collaboration, with computers becoming more human and humans becoming more creative. Where will that leave us? According to Marty Neumeier, we will be scrambling to stay ahead of the “robot curve”—a cycle of creative destruction that puts continuous downward pressure on the value of work. The good news is that the “robot curve” can work to our advantage. In his talk, Marty will outline the five basic talents—feeling, seeing, dreaming, making, and learning—you need to master if you want to rise to the top of the curve. He will explain how these skills will keep you two or three steps ahead of the machines, the algorithms, and the outsourcing forces of the “robot curve.” They’ll also bring you greater creativity, higher purpose, and a deeper sense of fulfillment.

Proceeds benefit a great cause. Reserve your tickets now.

The event is taking place at The Cleaners at The Ace Hotel, 403 SW 10th Ave (at Stark Street) on Wednesday, October 9. The talk starts at 7:30 PM – and is immediately followed by an opportunity to mingle and chat with Marty, enjoy tunes by DJ vs Nature from Beacon Sound and quench your thirst with delicious beer provided by Fort George Brewery. All proceeds will benefit the AIGA Portland Design Education scholarship. Please note that the event space has limited capacity and many tickets have been already sold, so we encourage you to purchase tickets in advance:

Come meet Marty, a man of many talents.

Marty is a respected author, designer, business adviser and sought-after speaker. His life-long mission has been to bring the principles and processes of creativity to industry. And we’re lucky to have him as our Director of Transformation. His books include The Designful Company, about the role of design in corporate innovation; ZAG, named one of the “top one hundred business books of all time” for its insights into radical differentiation; and The Brand Gap, considered by many the foundational text for modern brand-building. Marty’s writings have been an important source of inspiration and have helped us shape new directions for Liquid Agency as well as much of the work we do for our clients.

Check out our new space—stop by the Open House at Liquid Agency.
