The only regional design competition in the US.
Founded in 1940 by William Edwin Rudge, PRINT is a publication dedicated to showcasing the extraordinary in design on and off the page. Covering a field as broad as communication itself—publication and book design, animation and motion graphics, corporate branding and rock posters, exhibitions and street art—PRINT covers commercial, social, and environmental design from every angle. It is also the sponsor of the most comprehensive annual survey of graphic design in the United States and the only design competition in the US that showcases the work by region.

The work is evaluated by a highly respected set of judges.
The work that makes the final cut in this competition is evaluated by some of the most respected designers in the industry. This years’ judges included: Sarah Gephart (MGMT. Design), Sagi Haviv (Chermayeff & Geismar), Nicole Jacek (Karlssonwilker), Jason Kernevich and Dustin Summers (the Heads of State), Renda Morton (The New York Times), and Emily Oberman (Pentagram). According to Alfredo Muccino, Chief Creative Officer at Liquid Agency, “Having our work be selected among some of the best from the West Coast by such an amazing group of our peers is truly an honor. Additionally, the West Coast is home to some of the most creative and innovative designers in the world—which makes it that much more of a competitive environment”.
Winner: New Deal Distillery Packaging
We were happy to see that one of our favorite projects won yet another award. Since 2004, New Deal Distillery has been creating high-quality, hand-crafted spirits inspired by the Do-It-Yourself attitude of Portland, Oregon. We were hired to design a unique identity to launch their new Distiller’s Workshop Series brand, as well as the packaging system of their Gin, Vodka, and Whiskey bottles. The project was also awarded a coveted 2011 Rosey Award for Best Packaging by the Portland Advertising Federation, and also won an ADDY by the American Advertising Federation.
Winner: Spectre Brand Identity for HP
Liquid Agency have been working on a great variety of initiatives for HP, including the launch of its premier line of PC—the Envy Spectre. As part of this comprehensive assignment we developed the brand identity, as well as visual style and usage guidelines, a complete photographic library, retail merchandising materials, videos, event graphics, and a myriad of other items to support the launch. “The timeline under which we had to deliver this work was extremely tight, but we were lucky to work with some wonderful clients who helped us develop outstanding work under less than ideal circumstances. We are grateful for the trust that HP placed on us—and we’re thrilled to be included in the PRINT Regional Design Annual!” said Diane Stember Richards, the Senior Creative Director who spearheaded the work.

Wanted to acknowledge and thank Dave Williams (Creative Director) and Peter Baston (Designer) for the work they did on New Deal Distillery – and also thanks the entire team of people that worked on the Spectre project, including Diane Stember Richards (Creative Director); Sean Baker (Design Director); Jeff Gardner (Sr. Designer); Kim Catanzaro (Sr. Project Manager) and the rest of the team. All of the work we do at Liquid is highly collaborative and everyone on the team (on the Liquid side as well as our clients and partners) contributes their individual experience, skills and considerable talent to make it happen. THANKS!
Design solutions can be great no matter how compressed the timeline if the creative team uses the correct design compass from which to develop concepts. This fact is clearly demonstrated with the HP Spectre project.
